Bengaluru: A 30-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested by R.T. Nagar police on Tuesday on the charge of cheating the son of a Deputy Superintendent of Police of more than Rs. 14 lakh.

The police have identified the accused as Steve Owen alias Hussain, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar.

According to the police, Owen has been staying in the city since five years on a business visa. He allegedly cheated the police officer’s son by offering him a job in Scotland with a salary of Rs. 1.44 crore a year. The victim, an MBA graduate who was looking for jobs online, met Owen nine months ago.

The police said Owen contacted him and offered him an HR executive job in a Scotland-based company. He forged an offer letter and sought a commission of Rs. 14.3 lakh. The victim, after transferring the money, tried contacting Owen and found that his phone was switched off. Realising he had been cheated, the victim informed his father who registered a complaint with R.T. Nagar police. The police claimed that Owen had confessed to the crime.
