Bengaluru: Renowned writer and Head of the Textbook Revision Committee formed by the Karnataka government reiterated that no traces of saffronisation or Congressisation will be entertained in the school curriculum.

Speaking on the sidelines of School textbooks based on scientific and democratic principles’ organised by the All India Save Education Committee here on?Sunday December 20, Prof. Ramachandrappa said he would step down from his position if he encounters any pressure from the government or any other outfit in this regard.

Admitting that there were several errors in text books, he said his committee will not only rectify them but will also rewrite all the chapters. He added that while minor changes will be witnessed in the 2016 syllabus, the syllabus will completely be changed for the academic year 2017-2018.

The government has appointed 185 members to 27 committees to revise 352 titles in seven mediums of instruction to review textbooks.

Prof. Ramachandrappa also said that he had urged the government to scrap the Right to Education (RTE) Act in the state as it encouraged privatisation of school education and weakened government schools. He said that instead of sanctioning Rs 165cr for enrolling poor students in private schools under the RTE quota, the same could have been used to improve government schools,” he said.
