Bengaluru: In a startling data collected by the Department of Collegiate Education (DCE), it has been revealed that there is no single graduate in 2021 villages with an individual population of over 200 of 28 districts across the state.

Out of 27,586 villages in Karnataka as per the 2011 census, Kolar stands first with not a single graduate in 212 villages, followed by Tumakuru with 190 and Uttara Kannada with 163 villages. Kodagu stood last with only four villages without a graduate. However data of two districts is not available.

The department with a motive to improve the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) has asked its officials to find out the reason for the same. An official from the department said, “Officials have been told to visit such villages at least once a month to identify the hurdles that are preventing students from pursuing higher education.”
