Bengaluru: In an ironical twist, the coalition government in Karnataka hiked fuel prices by over Rs one, thus burdening the common man, this despite Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s recent fitness challenge to PM Modi asking him to reduce the fuel prices or be prepared for a nation-wide agitation.
Grabbing onto the opportunity, the BJP launched a scathing attack on the Congress while wondering why his coalition ally had not taken this challenge seriously.
Taking to Twitter, the BJP said, “No takers for Rahul Gandhi’s #FuelChallenge, not even his government! This is what happens when you pretend to know and preach things that you have no idea about!!!.”

On Thursday, June 5 Kumaraswamy met the electoral promise of farm loan waiver while presenting his maiden budget. He however hiked prices for electricity, tax for liquor and fuel to generate the much-needed revenue to meet the increased expenditure. The partial loan waiver for farmers announced yesterday would cost the exchequer Rs. 34,000 crore.
It may be recalled that on May 24 Rahul Gandhi had dared Modi to accept his fuel challenge shortly after the latter had accepted the fitness challenge extended by cricketer Virat Kohli.
Dear PM,
Glad to see you accept the @imVkohli fitness challenge. Here’s one from me:
Reduce Fuel prices or the Congress will do a nationwide agitation and force you to do so.
I look forward to your response.#FuelChallenge

Post a one-paise fall in the prices of diesel on May 30 Rahul had once more targeted the Prime Minister asking him if this was some kind of a joke.
“You’ve cut the price of Petrol and Diesel today by 1 paisa. ONE paisa!?? If this is your idea of a prank, it’s childish and in poor taste. P.S. A ONE paisa cut is not a suitable response to the #FuelChallenge I threw you last week,” said Gandhi in a tweet.
