In a major breakthrough, a 22-year-old man from Balasore district, Odisha, was arrested for allegedly stealing jewellery worth over ₹70 lakh from the Bengaluru residence of a doctor where he worked as domestic help.

The accused was apprehended on Tuesday in his village in the Khaira area following a tip-off, the police reported. The incident came to light when a jeweller in Khaira alerted authorities about a suspicious individual attempting to sell gold and diamond ornaments.

According to an officer, the shopkeeper became suspicious after questioning the man about the origins of the jewellery. The individual fled the shop abruptly, prompting the jeweller to inform the police. CCTV footage from the area was instrumental in tracing and capturing the suspect.

The case has garnered attention due to the significant value of the stolen items and the involvement of someone trusted within the household. Police continue their investigation to recover the stolen jewellery and establish the complete sequence of events leading up to the theft.

This arrest underscores the importance of vigilance and the role of community collaboration in solving crimes.
