Bengaluru: The D J Halli police cracked a very complex case and succeeded in nabbing a trio involved in the murder of an Ola cab driver named Soman for gain recently in the city.

Dhimanshankar Das alias Deepak (26), Aroop Shankar Das (36), both natives of Assam and Bharat Pradhan (22) of Orissa were arrested by the police in connection with the murder.

The accused trio plotted the killing only for gain. To execute their plans they booked a cab from far off K B Sandra in the city, despite them residing in Electronic City and Attibele to hoodwink investigative agencies.

In the wee hours of March 18, they stopped oncoming cars on KHB Road near Veerannapalya Railway Gate requesting cab drivers for a ride upto Hosur in Tamil Nadu, adjoining state border near Attibele. Three cab drivers refused their oral request and asked them to book online for them to proceed further.

Ill-fated Rinson T alias Soman T L agreed to drop them at Hosur and fixed a rental as Rs 1500 for the ride. The trio succeeded in their initial plan as they did not go through the regular online booking procedure. The cab reached Sipcot Industrial Area in Hosur in the early hours of the morning after travelling through Nagavara, K R puram, Silk Board, Electronic City and Attibele tolls.

After reaching Hosur, the trio asked Ola cab driver Soman to stop the car to facilitate them to answer nature’s call. Sensing danger, driver Soman refused to stop and agreed to drop them at their final destination within a short time.

After travelling a short distance, the trio agreed to alight from the car at an isolated location near Bedarahalli Government School.

Once driver Soman stopped the car, they swung into action in a flash and managed to physically assault soman using knife and screw driver. Meanwhile, Deepak sitting at the rear threw the towel around Soman’s neck and strangled him to death.

Then they threw the dead body in a drain and fled the scene with Renault car bearing registration number KA-51-AA-9202 costing Rs 11 Lakhs, an iPhone costing Rs 40,000 and a Lenovo phone costing Rs 7000.

Meanwhile, Krishnagiri Police registered a case under Section 174 of CrPC after they found an unidentified body and relayed the information to D J Halli police on the lookout for information about the missing driver from various police stations in the region. Deceased driver Soman’s father identified his son’s body on March 25. Police after carrying out the initial investigations, concluded that driver Soman was murdered for gain and ruled out natural death. Accordingly they had registered a complaint 67/2018 under CrPC sections 302 and 201 on April 5.

DCP (East) Ajay Singh Hilori formed a special squad to crack the case as there were no clues related to the killing. D J Halli police, in a joint operation with Banswadi police, managed to crack the case after enormous efforts. Technical staff and informants played a vital role in helping the investigating team which finally managed to nab the trio involved in the killing of Ola cab driver Soman.

During the course of the investigation, the police found that the trio was also involved in a case related to abduction of a person named Jantu Das for ransom in RMC Yard Police Station limits on April 1.

City police commissioner, ACP west and other senior officials have complimented the police team for cracking the case successfully.
