Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party National President Amit Shah who arrived in the state capital today is expected to chalk out a counter strategy to combat Congress in the upcoming Assembly polls.

Shah, who completed three years as the party president on August 9 is termed as the best president the party has had and is often termed as the modern day Chanakya. Having scripted a massive victory for the party in the Uttar Pradesh election, Shah it is believed to inculcate the same strategies in Karnataka.

However, he has an uphill task in the state given the differences between leaders within the party namely state party president B S Yeddyuraapa and K S Eshwarappa before taking on rival Congress on various issues such as a demand for separate religion for Lingayaths, separate state flag and allegations of the Centre imposing Hindi here.

As part of its strategy, Amit Shah may look to rope in prominent leaders and MLAs of other parties into the party cadre.

It is learnt that Shah may chair a series of formal meetings with state office-bearers, divisional organising secretaries, heads of various morchas and intellectuals to discuss the road map ahead.

“The roadmap will be based on the consolidated report of the 224 Assembly constituencies in the state which lists out the party’s strengths and weaknesses in each of the constituencies. More focus would be given to those constituencies where the party has a very weak base,” said a party leader.
