Bengaluru: The Department of Food and Civil Supplies is all set to launch ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’ scheme in Karnataka from October 1.
Under the scheme, a beneficiary can get food items from any fair price shop in any part of the country. The main idea behind the scheme is to ensure that no migratory family is devoid of food.
According to the authorities, as per the plan, the ration card portability scheme will be launched in the state. Once this scheme is implemented, a card-holder can visit any shop in a month and collect his benefits.
“The pilot scheme will be implemented in Karnataka and Kerala. Once it is successful, it will be extended to the entire country. The National Informatics Center (NIC) is providing technical support,” explained an official from the department.
