Post Office Road — a crucial and crowded stretch located opposite Central College and the Civil Court Complex in Bengaluru — has been excavated on both flanks, causing major disruption and posing safety threats to motorists and walkers alike.

The stormwater drain desilting and new pipe installation project has overshot its completion timeline, leading to growing public discontent.

Rahamatullah N, an auto driver, expressed frustration: “This has been going on for nearly six weeks. Autos can’t be stationed properly, and when buses or larger vehicles go by, it leads to massive traffic snarls.”

Students are directly impacted. Avinash S, studying at Central College, shared, “With so many vehicles parked on the sides, there’s no space to walk. People are forced onto the carriageway, which is highly unsafe. There have been close shaves.”

Geetha Suresh, a practicing lawyer from the nearby court, noted, “There’s no explanation for the prolonged work. It’s messy and leaves the entire area coated in dust.”

A BBMP spokesperson mentioned that the current stage involves removing sludge and earth from drains. Once that’s done, white-topping — a process of laying concrete on roads — will take another 45 days to complete.

Locals have also criticized the lack of signage, barricades, or any on-site updates, claiming that the hazardous conditions have gone unchecked.

The public is now demanding faster execution and better management to restore order and ensure safety.
