OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and his partner Oliver Mulherin quietly welcomed a baby boy in February this year. On social media, Altman recently shared a glimpse into new parenthood—revealing that his son sleeps in a Cradlewise smart crib, a product built by a startup co-founded by Bengaluru-educated Radhika Patil.
In his post, Altman recommended the crib to fellow parents, saying, “We bought a lot of silly baby things… but definitely I recommend a Cradlewise crib and a lot more burp rags than you think you could possibly need.”
Cradlewise, launched in 2016 by Radhika and her husband Bharath Patil, is a tech startup with roots in India and operations in the US. The couple built the first prototype in Bengaluru, but later shifted base to the US during the pandemic to expand their market. Their AI-powered crib is designed to soothe babies back to sleep using gentle bouncing and real-time monitoring.
Radhika, who holds a Master’s in Electronic Design from IISc and a Bachelor’s from Stanford, responded warmly to Altman’s endorsement. “Thanks for loving us, Sam Altman. The AI god’s trust in the smarts of Cradlewise means a lot to us,” she wrote.
The smart crib currently sells for $1,999 in the US and around ₹1.5 lakh in India. Altman’s praise has given a significant spotlight to this Indo-American innovation.
