Bengaluru: A jail watcher group C worker’s post usually requires a maximum qualification of SSLC as prescribed by the Government of Karnataka. However, out of 1,076 watchers selected recently, 30 are BE graduates. Many of them are engineering graduates in computer science, IT, mechanical engineering etc. This is a clear example of the struggle faced by engineering graduates in securing a job.
According to the authorities, the qualification for a jail watcher’s posts, as fixed by the state government, is less than even the police constables.
Home minister M B Patil pointed out that it is sad to see BE graduates opting for such a job. “We are happy that educated youth are joining these jobs. But it is sad that there are no jobs suited to their education,” he said.
