Over 12,500 Students Absent on Day 2 of II PU Exams in Karnataka
On Day 2 of the II PU exams in Karnataka, held for the Mathematics paper on Monday, a total of 12,533 students were absent across the state. Despite the large number of absentees, no cases of malpractice were reported from any exam centers. This smooth conduct was attributed to the introduction of web streaming for exams starting from the 2024 academic year, which officials say helped prevent cheating.
The primary reason behind the high absenteeism was linked to the upcoming exams. According to officials, students have the option to skip an exam if they feel unprepared and take the test during one of the two remaining chances offered later. This flexibility led to many students opting out of the Mathematics paper.
The highest absenteeism was observed in Bengaluru South, where 1,510 students were absent, followed by Raichur with 1,058 absentees and Vijayapura with 1,010 absentees. On the other hand, districts such as Bengaluru Rural (79 absentees), Chamarajanagar (80), and Hassan (119) reported the least absenteeism.
While students found the mathematics paper manageable overall, a few questions were deemed tricky, requiring more time to solve. “A few questions were very tricky and needed more time,” said Chandan B R, a student.
The absence trend continues to raise concerns, but the lack of any malpractice incidents was a positive outcome for the exam authorities.
