Bengaluru: As many as 20,748 trees will be axed to lay the proposed 330 km long Bengaluru-Chennai expressway.
The project, which was first proposed in 2018 is expected to bring down the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai, boosting the economic activities in South India.
According to the authorities, this project will be implemented in three packages.
In Karnataka, Kolar and Bengaluru rural are the two worst affected areas as thousands of trees including the plantation crops are expected to be destroyed.
However, experts point that this new expressway is expected to help the seamless movement of goods between Karnataka especially Bengaluru to the Chennai port.
