Bharat Bhushan, a 41-year-old software engineer from Bengaluru, who tragically lost his life in the Pahalgam terror attack, will be laid to rest on Thursday morning. Bhushan had travelled to Jammu and Kashmir with his wife Sujatha and their 3.5-year-old son on April 18, just four days after his birthday. Their return was scheduled for Wednesday.
Grief gripped Sundar Nagar, Gokula, where police set up barricades and friends gathered to offer support. “We got confirmation around 8 pm,” said Prem, Bhushan’s friend and a member of the local welfare association. His elder brother Preetham was the first to receive the heartbreaking news.
The situation remains delicate at home—Bhushan’s parents, both cardiac patients, haven’t been told yet. His mother, a diabetic, was recently discharged from ICU and remains on oxygen support. Sujatha, a doctor, has been in touch with her mother since the attack. She and her son were moved to safety in Srinagar by army officials.
The couple had planned the trip a month in advance. “It’s tragic. He was a quiet, kind man who never raised his voice,” recalled his longtime friend Prithvi. “We grew up playing cricket and celebrating festivals together. He didn’t deserve this end.”
R R Nagar MLA Munirathna confirmed the cremation will take place at Hebbal crematorium with Vokkaliga rituals at 1 pm. MP Tejasvi Surya accompanied the families of the deceased from Srinagar and coordinated their travel and accommodation.
