Bengaluru: Parents of a 22-year-old army jawan who is said to have committed suicide by shooting self with his service rifle while on duty have raised suspicions of foul play into the incident and demanded an inquiry into the same.

Narendra R, a resident of Rajagopalnagar in the city had joined the army around two years ago and was deployed at Pahalgam in Anantnag district of South Jammu and Kashmir.

Reportedly his parents had got a call early on Sunday morning informing that their son had committed suicide minutes before his shift was to end early Sunday morning.

Demanding an inquiry into his death, the parents mentioned that they had spoken to their son on Saturday night itself via a video call and he appeared happy at the time and had obviously no reasons to end his life.

Narendra had recently visited his family in September and had returned to line of duty only on September 27. During his stay here he even availed a home loan to purchase a new house. One of his friends has said that Narendra was very concerned about his family’s welfare and showed no signs of depression.

The mortal remains of Narendra are expected to arrive today and the final rites will be conducted today itself.
