BENGALURU: A shocking incident unfolded on Tuesday when a 25-year-old passenger, Harsh Sinha, allegedly stabbed a BMTC conductor inside a moving bus in an act of rage. The incident occurred around 5:50 PM on a crowded BMTC Volvo bus (500 CK, Kadugodi-Banashankari) near ITPL Main Road.

According to police, Sinha, originally from Jharkhand, boarded the bus and was standing near the middle doors. When the conductor, 45-year-old Yogesh, requested him to move away from the doors for safety reasons, Sinha reacted violently. He pulled out a knife and stabbed Yogesh in the abdomen. As the conductor bled, Sinha threatened other passengers, demanding they leave the bus.

Bus driver Siddalingaswamy, witnessing the chaos from his seat, swiftly closed all doors as passengers exited and locked Sinha inside. CCTV footage later showed Sinha grabbing a hammer and smashing the bus’s windows and doors, causing considerable damage.

Siddalingaswamy called the police, who arrived promptly and arrested Sinha. Yogesh was taken to a private hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be out of danger.

Investigations revealed that Sinha, who had worked in the city for six years, was fired from a BPO company in Whitefield on September 20. He reportedly carried the knife with the intent to attack his former boss, fearing that the boss might sabotage his future job prospects. The confrontation with the conductor triggered his violent outburst during the bus journey.

The Whitefield police have charged Sinha with attempted murder and are probing the circumstances surrounding his termination.

The BMTC has commended driver Siddalingaswamy for his quick thinking, stating, “We are relieved that both the conductor and the driver are safe. The BMTC has extended full support to the injured conductor and is cooperating with the police investigation.”
