Bengaluru: In a first-of-its-kind incident to happen in any part of the country in recent years, on Friday, January 24, hundreds of passengers tried to block the runway at the Kempegowda International Airport, in protest against the delayed departure of a Phuket-bound flight.
According to the authorities, a Phuket-bound flight was supposed to leave the airport early on Friday morning. A total of 173 passengers were on board.
When the flight did not take off for hours together due to technical issues, the passengers got antsy, especially since the and crew members did not inform them about the reason for the delay or give them the estimated time of the flight’s departure. The raged passengers alighted the aircraft, got on to the runway and tried to block it.
Later, they were coaxed back into the aircraft by the security personnel. The flight took off after an eight-hour delay.
