Bengaluru: Two tanker vehicles were completely gutted after a petrol-laden tanker caught fire following an accident on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Thursday. Fortunately, both drivers escaped unhurt.

The incident occurred near the 11th Mile under the jurisdiction of Doddabelavangala Police Station in Bengaluru Rural district. The blaze led to panic among motorists and briefly disrupted traffic in the area.

Fire spread from petrol tanker to milk tanker

According to police, the driver of the petrol tanker reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a roadside tree. The impact triggered a massive fire, with flames rapidly engulfing the tanker.

A milk tanker that was reversing nearby also caught fire after the flames spread, resulting in both vehicles being completely destroyed.

Drivers escape safely

Officials said both drivers managed to jump out of their vehicles before the fire intensified, escaping without any injuries.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control after an extensive firefighting operation. Police also regulated traffic until the charred vehicles were removed from the road.

Investigation underway

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings indicate that the petrol tanker lost control before crashing into the tree, though further inquiries are underway.

The incident once again highlights the risks associated with transporting highly inflammable materials and the importance of strict safety measures for hazardous goods vehicles on highways.
