Plea seeking to lift stay on Kambala to come up for hearing on Jan 30

Bengaluru: An interim application filed by the Kambala Samiti seeking to lift stay granted against organizing Kambala – a traditional buffalo race held annually – in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district has ben posted to January 30.

The interim application came up for hearing before the high court division bench comprising of Justice Dinesh Kumar and Justice Jayant Patel on Friday January 20. However Justice Patel observed that since the original application on the issue was heard so far by the division bench headed by the Chief Justice, this petition should also be heard by the same bench.

Madhusudan R Nayak, advocate general of the state stated that on December 12, 2016 an expert committee had been formed by the state government to study the event being organized by the said Kambala Samiti. The committee will be submitting a detailed report thereof to the government
