Chennai/Bengaluru: The much expected Bengaluru-Coimbatore daily, air-conditioned double-decker rail-‘Uday Express’ will begin from next week onwards.
With this, one of the long pending demands of people of this region will be fulfilled. Though thousands of people travel between these two cities daily, there is no direct train connectivity between them. Seven trains which travel from Bengaluru to other cities just pass through Coimbatore.
The Uday Express is a Double Dekkar train which will travel between Bengaluru and Coimbatore during day-time is completely air-conditioned and has Wi-Fi connectivity. There will be automatic machines in the train to distribute snacks and food items. Moreover, this train is designed to provide the experience of air travel to the passengers, said Railway department sources.
Special bogies have been designed for the train in Perambur Railway Workshop of Chennai. Bogies have been transported to the Coimbatore railway station already. A new train was declared between the two cities in 2016 Railway budget.
As the election model code of conduct is in place on the backdrop of Karnataka Assembly elections, without any grand ceremony, the service will be initiated by the department.
