Bengaluru: The BJP government which came to power assuring nation’s youth of 2 crore jobs snatched away existing 22 lakhs instead with its demonetisation move, alleged Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union leader Kanhaiya Kumar.
Launching a scathing attack on the ruling central BJP regime while addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Kanhaiya Kumar alleged, “Budgetary allocation for post graduate studies and research has been slashed and student suicides have increased by 43 percent. The BJP government is busy in the saffronisation of education and trying to stifle the progressive thinking in the country. Efforts are on to implement the RSS agenda in education and incidents in JNU, IIT-Madras, HCU and IIMC are the glaring examples of the government’s motives”.
“Three months have elapsed since JNU student Najeeb Ahmed went missing with no leads on his whereabouts. If one questions, then he will branded as anti-national and booked under sedition. The capitalist central regime cannot reach out to the poor”, alleged the JNU student leader.
Student union movement has been crushed at grass root levels in most states including Karnataka where elections are not held for student bodies. Chief ministers of Bihar and UP who came to power through student movement too have banned student union elections. None wants to see the rise of new leaders whereas student unions aim to provide a link between social and political movements in the country, Kanhiaya confirmed while demanding implementation of Lyngdoh Committee recommendations.
