Bengaluru is set for a major infrastructure boost as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro on August 10, announced BJP MP Tejasvi Surya on Sunday via X (formerly Twitter).
The Yellow Line stretches 19.15 km, connecting RV Road to Bommasandra and includes 16 stations. Built at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore, the metro corridor is designed to ease traffic congestion—especially at the infamous Silk Board junction—and is expected to serve nearly 8,00,000 commuters daily.
Surya praised the Prime Minister’s direct involvement in the project, crediting him for clearing final hurdles and ensuring timely completion. He emphasized that expanding public transport infrastructure is the most effective long-term solution to Bengaluru’s traffic crisis.
“Public transport is the only option to reduce traffic congestion. Thanks to PM Modi’s insistence, the Yellow Line will be operational for the public starting August 15,” Surya wrote.
Union Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar also confirmed Modi’s visit and added that the PM will lay the foundation stone for Bengaluru Metro Phase-3, a 44.65 km extension project estimated at ₹15,611 crore, during the same ceremony.
This development marks a significant leap for the city’s mobility network, offering faster, more reliable transit across key industrial and residential areas. Civic planners and residents alike see this as a vital step forward in addressing the city’s escalating commute challenges.
