Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Sunday, February 16 visited the Jangamawadi Mutt in Varanasi.
PM Modi is on a visit to Varanasi, his home turf to take part in series of event, including inauguration of tallest statue of BJP ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya.
During his vist to the Mutt, the PM, lauding the contributions of the Veerashaiva cult, also spoke about the importance of ‘Siddhantha Shikhamani’, the religious scripture of the Panchacharyas tradition of Veerashaivas/ Lingayatism.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and Karnataka CM B S Yediyurappa were present.
Jangamwadi Math is one of the oldest Mutts in Varanasi. Literature dates it back to Satyuga – first of the four Yugas in Hindu timeframe.
It is said that Raja Jaichand donated land for this Jangamwadi Mutt that has seen an unbroken lineage of 86 Jagatgurus.
Present Peethadhipati or the guru of the Peeth is Jagadguru Chandrashekhar Shivacharya Mahaswami. The Math has seen women Gurus like Daharmguru Sharnamma.
