Police arrest man accused of stabbing woman, two cops

Bengaluru: A rowdy-sheeter who is suspected to have stabbed a 27-year-old woman in Cottonpet on June 21, attacked two policemen who were trying to arrest him near Tank Bund on Saturday. A special team managed to nab the accused, Rakesh alias Billa, from Channapatna on Monday. He is the resident of Flower Garden in Cottonpet.

Rakesh had been absconding after stabbing the woman, who worked as an executive with a private airline. The incident took place at 9.30 am on June 21. She survived the attack. Based on her statement, a special team was formed to nab him, and on Saturday the police got information that he was hiding near Tank Bund Road.

The police said the accused had involved in a murder case in KP Agrahara police limits.

Thirumalai, an assistant SI, and Kumar, a constable, went to arrest him. When the two policemen tried to stop Rakesh from escaping, he attacked them with a dagger and fled.

Rakesh was allegedly paid Rs. 50,000 to attack the woman on behalf of a man with whom she had ended her relationship. The ex-boyfriend, Promod, was arrested on June 28.

A case has been registered at Cottonpet police station under Sections 353 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
