Bengaluru: A 50-year-old police constable was attacked by a gang with a chopper while the former was on his night rounds at Padarayanapura in J.J. Nagar on Wednesday. The injured constable, Rajendra, was rushed to Victoria Hospital.
According to the police, Rajendra and fellow constable Shivaprasad received an alert from the control room about a group of people creating a ruckus in Padarayanapura.
The duo drove to the spot in a patrol vehicle. They came across a group of men, in an inebriated state, gathered at the corner of a road. Rajendra got out of the vehicle and walked towards the group. Suddenly the street light went off and the men attacked him with a chopper.
By the time Shivaprasad came to his help, the men had fled leaving Rajendra in a pool of blood. He alerted the control room following which fellow policemen, who were on night rounds in adjacent areas, rushed to the spot and shifted Rajendra to Victoria Hospital.
The police have put up naka bandis in and around the area to nab the attackers. “We suspect that the attack was carried out by a rowdy and his associates,” said a senior police officer.
