Bengaluru: In what seems to be an attempt to restore law and order in the bustling and busy city of Bengaluru, twenty private buses and ten BMTC buses carrying school children caught flouting norms of the Supreme Court have been detained by the transport department here on Monday.
Thirty illegal maxi cabs too have been detained. Motorbikes were fined for breaking sound limits and goods vehicles too were fined for overloading and defaulting tax payments.
Even a former MLA wasn’t spared when he was caught by the traffic police at Magadi Road. He was using a Mercedes Benz without registration for a year owing to which his car was seized even though he threatened the officials with dire consequences. He later paid Rs 7 lakh as tax and got the car registered in his daughter’s name, said one of the police officers.
The traffic police continued to crack the whip on trucks and over 60 Lorries were detained for overloading in the electronic city.
Around 150 cases were booked against 85 buses with shrill horns for breaking sound limits in Devanahalli and other parts of Bengaluru. Several traffic rules violation cases are currently being registered
