Police fire at kidnappers, rescue child in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The city police ended up opening fire at a kidnapper and injuring him, after the latter attacked police in a bid to escape, on Monday late night.

A five-year-old boy named Chandan, son of Rajesh-Mala couple from Manjunath Nagar of KP Agrahara here was kidnapped by unidentified men on Sunday on spotting the child playing all alone outside his home. The kidnappers had called up Rajesh and kept a demand for Rs 30,000 as ransom. Within few hours, the kidnappers had asked for Rs 30 lakhs to release the child.

However, acting swiftly the police tracked down the kidnappers and when they reached the spot, the kidnappers attacked the police. In retaliation, police inspector Manjunath opened fire leaving one kidnapper injured. One accused identified as Divyajeeth and four others have been arrested from their den in Kengeri. The child has been rescued and handed over to the parents.
