Police nab eight, seize 36 kgs of ganja

Bengaluru: The special police team arrested eight persons for ganja (cannabis) peddling in the Whitefield Division and seized 36 kgs and 100 grams of ganja from the accused persons.

“We have taken up a special initiative to control drug peddling in the Whitefield Division. After a tip-off, the police have arrested people from Assam, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. All of them were remanded to judicial custody,’’ Commissioner of Police T Suneel Kumar told reporters here on Monday.

The Marathahalli police have nabbed M. Ravi, 38, a native of Balasamudram village, Kadiri taluk in Ananthpur district for cultivating ganja in his field.

“The accused was arrested while trying to sell ganja to students and labourers between Rs 100 and Rs 200 per 10 gms of ganja,’’ the Commissioner of Police said.

The police have sized 15 kgs of ganja from the accused.

The Kadugodi police have arrested Ahmed Khan, 60, a resident of Narasapura village in Kolar taluk and Gagan Kumar, 21, a native of Balchandpur, Thana district, Odisha for selling ganja.

“Ahmed Khan used to get ganja from Assam and sell it to construction workers at Kadugodi. Gagan Kumar used to get ganja from a person in Odisha and sell it to construction workers,’’ he said.

The police have seized 12 kgs and 560 grams of ganja from the accused.

The KR Puram police have arrested Bijay Nayak, 30, a native of Konkuni village, Gajapathi district, Odisha for cultivating ganja on his land and selling it to college students and construction workers.

The police have seized 4 kgs of ganja from the accused.

A 34-year old man was arrested for selling ganja at Priyanka Nagar, near KR Puram. Kumar Biswas, a native of Nadia district, West Bengal, is accused of sourcing the banned substance from his home state and illegally cultivating some of it in an empty field near Seegehalli, where he is living. Police added that they had seized 800-gram ganja from him.

Biswas came to Bengaluru three years ago and was working as a labourer. A local court has remanded him in judicial custody.

The Whitefield police have arrested Nitheesh, 40, a native of Bhijanbari village, Darjeeling district, West Bengal, and Imran, 36, residing at 3rd Cross, Kattigenahalli, Yelahanka, for selling ganja to students and construction workers in Whitefield police limits.

The police have seized four kgs of ganja from the accused persons.

The HAL police have arrested Anil Kumar, 25, residing near Golden Grand Company, Yesvantpur Railway Station, Bengaluru for selling ganja to hotel workers through middlemen.

“The accused used to get ganja from Bihar. The police have seized 450 gms of ganja from him,’’ he said.
