The police have identified the victim as Muniyappa, 55, a resident of Matadalli, near RT Nagar. The victim was a manager of Amruthalli branch of Sudha Cooperative Bank.

The police said the victim used to work as a mediator/agent for providing loans. The police said the victim used to take the loan from a financier at a lower interest and loan the amount to other at a higher interest and earned money.

History:

According to the police, Muniyappa’s body was found lying in the back seat of his Alto car near Malagala underpass on August 16. He had left his house at 3 pm on August 15 to meet some friends. However, when he did not return home in the evening and did not receive phone calls, his family got worried and started searching for him. The next day at 12 noon, his family found his dead body in the back seat of his Alto car. There was a poison bottle found next to his body and it looked like an apparent suicide. However, his family suspected foul play and based on the complaint of his wife Smt. Mamata, a case of murder was registered in Kamakshipalya Police Station as Co. No. 355/17 u/s 302 r/w 34 IPC.

Motive:

Muniyappa had loaned Tilak an amount of Rs 1 crore and 5 lakh since 2014.Tilak had not repaid the principal nor was he paying the monthly interest. Muniyappa in turn had to pay his creditors 22 lacs interest per month, so he was insisting that Tilak pay back the amount. Due to this they had a quarrel about 15 days prior to the murder. Muniyappa had also threatened to commit suicide if Tilak did not repay. Tilak then decided to murder Muniyappa and make it look like a suicide.
