BENGALURU: The city’s police force has ramped up their investigation into a series of bomb threats that were sent via email to three colleges in the southern division, uncovering that the suspects employed fake Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to conceal their identities.
The bomb threats were directed at BMS College, located within the Hanumanthanagar police station jurisdiction, BIT College in Visvesvarpura, and MSRIT College under the Sadashivanagar police station. All three colleges received the threats from the same email address, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.
As a precautionary measure, bomb disposal squads, detection teams, and personnel from the fire department were dispatched to each location. Extensive searches were carried out on the college premises to ensure the safety of students and staff. Fortunately, no explosive devices or hazardous materials were discovered during these thorough inspections, alleviating immediate concerns.
The investigation into the bomb threats has proven to be complex. The use of fake VPN services by the culprits has significantly hindered police efforts to trace the origin of the emails.
