Bengaluru: Director General and Inspector General of Police Neelamni N. Raju has issued an order to establish reception desks at each police station in the state. Each police station has been granted Rs 1 lakh from the Janasnehi Police Scheme towards this.

As per the DG&IGP order, each police station will have a reception desk and a signboard with the words ‘May I help you?’ in both English and Kannada. Three to four suitable personnel from each station will be trained to communicate politely with citizens and respond to their queries. This will ensure their behaviour with the public is friendly and appropriate.

The reception desk will have chairs for the reception officer and visitors, a fan and drinking water facilities. The desk will also have a visitor’s book where those seeking an audience with the police will have to enter their details, time of visit, and nature of complaint. Their signature along with the signature of the personnel in-charge will be mandatory.

The order further states that these reception desks must be established in the offices of circle inspectors, Dy.SPs and other senior police officials.

These reception desks will soon get a computer, as promised by the Police Computer Wing, after which the visitor’s register will be maintained on the computer, the order said.
