Bengaluru/Rome: The present Bishop of Belgaum Diocese has been appointed as the new Archbishop of Bangalore. Pope Francis has appointed Bishop Peter Machado as the Archbishop, according to the provisions of Canon Law.
This decision was announced in Rome on March 19. With this, Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of current Archbishop of Bangalore Rev. Dr. Bernard Blasius Moras.
Dr. Bernard Moras will continue to be the Apostolic Administrator of Bengaluru Archdiocese until Bishop Machado assumes office.
About Archbishop Dr. Peter Machado
Born on May 26, 1954 in Honnavar, Bishop Peter Machado was ordained a priest on December 8, 1978 for the Diocese of Karwar.
He completed his doctoral studies in Rome in Canon Law and has served as procurator, judicial vicar, consultor and secretary of the Karnataka Regional Bishops’ Laity Commission, based in Bangalore.
Bishop Machado was ordained Bishop of Belgaum on March 30, 2006.
