Potholes claim one more life in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: The potholed Mysuru Road claimed another life on Sunday, taking the number of fatalities owing to the poor condition of this stretch to three in less than a week.

On Sunday, a 47-year-old woman pillion rider came under the wheels of a truck when her nephew Ravi Kumar lost control of the scooter while negotiating a bad stretch at Nayandahalli junction.

Ravi, 24, sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Radha, wife of BMTC driver Anjanappa and resident of D.J. Halli, was on her way to visit relatives in Ramanagaram when the accident happened at 9.35 a.m.

The police said Ravi noticed a depression on the road near Nayandahalli junction and applied sudden brake to avoid it. A lorry carrying bricks ran over Radha killing her on the spot.

This particular stretch of road sees an average 15,000 vehicles pass every hour, and the recent rain has damaged it completely. “The stretch has been so bad that there is no road, literally. The ongoing metro construction has worsened the situation,” a police officer said.
