Bengaluru: Bengaluru roads are not known for their even behaviour – pot holes are common place – but the pre monsoon showers have exacerbated the menace for motorists.
They are now crater sized – more like aliens have landed and taken off in their special crafts. In church street, a prim location, a deep trench surfaced and one more has emerged on Kuvempu Road between Navarang Theatre and Malleswaram, also a prominent location. In addition, big crater-size potholes are posing danger to motorists on Bannerghatta Road near the Dairy Circle. Many potholes have come up from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to Vittal Malya Road. Kanakapura Road near Deepak Nursing Home, Sarakki and Yelachenahalli are already a motorist’s nightmare.
Other roads which bore the brunt of the torrential rain in the last few days are Okalipuram, Mysuru Road, the road near the Seshadripuram police station, Magadi Road near Sunkadakatte, Basaveshwaranagar near a marriage hall, the road behind the Kamakshipalya police station, the road near the General Post Office on Ambedkar Veedhi, Johnson Market, Shivajinagar, New BEL Road, Sanjaynagar Main Road near RMV Hospital and Cunningham Road.
Bad roads means bad business. Nazeer, who sells antique coins on Church Street, said the bad road had affected his business. “A small space has been given to me for business which is getting affected due to the waterlogging. Customers hesitate to stand on the road fearing the moving vehicles would splash dirty water onto them and spoil their clothes,” he said.
The substandard quality of road work has thrown a challenge to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) administration which is tasked with setting right a majority of 13,070 km roads spread across 800 sq km across the City as it faces municipal elections in three months.
