Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, two sisters opted to end their lives after being unable to cope up with the pressure from their families to get married and ‘settle down’.

The two sisters-Tejaswini (22) and Ranjitha (20), both pursuing engineering courses in a college near Channasandra hanged themselves in their residence at Muneshwara Layout here on Tuesday morning.

On Monday, Malleshappa, father of the girls and a provision store owner told the sibling that it was time they got married. He also told them that they had selected a few prospective grooms who will be visiting their home soon to see them.

A heated argument broke out between Malleshappa and Tejaswini-Ranjitha duo and during the argument the girls told their father that they were in love. The altercation that went on till late night left Malleshappa in a state of worry. Regretting the fight, at around 3.30 am Malleshappa went to the girl’s bedroom to see them, but was shocked to find the two hanging from the ceiling fan of their room.

The sisters have left a death note stating that they were upset about getting married at an early age, the police said. Tesjaswini was a final year students while Ranjitha was pursuing II year of engineering.

A case has been registered in Madiwala police station and investigation is on.
