Bengaluru: Pro-Kannada activists conducted a “funeral” for the 25 MPs of the state here on Saturday, October 5. The demonstration was being made in protest against the Centre for not releasing enough funds to combat the flood situation on time.

The demonstrators contended that the amount released by the Central Government, (Rs 1200 crores) wasn’t even 10 per cent of the actual losses suffered by the state.

It can be recalled that the state had submitted a report to the Central Government, estimating the losses to be around Rs 30,000 crores.

One of the activists explained that they were holding the protest against the delay in releasing the relief funds for the flood-affected areas of the state. “Yesterday, they announced an interim relief fund of Rs 1200 crores, which is not even 10 per cent of the actual loss suffered by the state.”

Till date, at least 82 people died due to the floods in the state. Belagavi recorded the highest number of deaths with 19 people losing their lives in flood-related incidents. So far, at least nine people are considered missing.
