Bengaluru: Professional Education in Karnataka has just got costlier from this academic year onwards!

Sources say that the the fee of a government quota seat in private medical colleges has gone up to Rs 55, 000 from Rs 46,000, while for engineering seats, there will be two slabs – In colleges where the government quota seat is Rs 45,000, the fee of a COMEDK seat is likely to be Rs 1.6 lakh and in colleges where government quota seats are fixed at Rs 50,000 apiece, the COMEDK seat fee is likely to be Rs 1.1 lakh.

Sources indicate that these hikes were agreed at a meeting of unaided college managements and government officials held here on Tuesday.

The agreement comes on the heels of the amended Karnataka Professional Education Institutions (Regulation of Admissions and Determination of Fee) Act, 2006, which provides for such consensual agreements on seat sharing and fees between the government and unaided colleges.
