Bengaluru: Soon after the II PU results were announced three days ago, several complaints flooded the PU board. Parents and students were furious and members of students unions joined them when they protested at the department in Malleswaram on Thursday morning, demanding the discrepancies be sorted out.
A Commerce student, on condition of annoymity said his scores differ from website to website, as well as on the marks card. “Colleges take into account the scores on the marks card. Due to mistakes of the PU Board officials, I may not get a seat in a reputed college,” he said.
Students were not satisfied with the the PUE department director Sushma Godbole’s assurance that the problems would be sorted out and a section of the students resorted to violene to register their protest, trying to barge into the building and break furniture.
Police took some into preventive custody and released them later. “We blocked websites which attracted complaints. We asked students and parents to go by the department website,” Godbole said. A Science student said she was deemed to have failed in one subject though she was quite sure she had done well.
“I’ve applied for a photocopy of my answerscript. Based on that, I’ll apply for re-evaluation. If they delay this process, I can’t apply for undergraduate courses.” A few Science students demanded postponement of the results till re-evaluation results are announced.
“We’re following the rules regarding photocopies of answerscripts to students. We can’t issue them immediately but have to send them to the students’ addresses,” said Godbole. Primary and secondary education minister Kimmane Ratnakar said he met PUE department officials and asked them to ensure students didn’t suffer any injustice. “Parents and students needn’t panic. It’s the duty of the department to solve the problems of students and ensure their educational plans are not affected,” he said.
