Bengaluru: The Students’ Federation of India staged a protest on Sunday, April 1 against the Department of Pre-University Education’s decision to hike the tuition as well as the marks card fees.

Gururaj Desai, Students’ Federation of India Karnataka State secretary, said the decision of the Department of Pre-University Education would make things difficult for thousands of students. The new tuition fee, revised to Rs. 1,330 from Rs. 1,008, will apply to all Pre-University colleges.

Desai said several private Pre-University colleges were not following this fee structure and were collecting exorbitant fees.

Members of the Students’ Federation of India also raised slogans against the Central Board of Secondary Education for its negligence after students of classes 10 and 12 were asked to appear for re-examinations.

Desai also said the organisation was against the University Grants Commission’s decision to grant special status to 60 institutions, as they felt that giving autonomy to these institutions would go against the interest of students.
