Bengaluru: Sandalwood actor “Power Star” Puneeth Rajkumar, cricketer Anil Kumble, and actress Ragini were the star attractions at the Mask Day celebrations near the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday, June 18. The state government organised this event to create awareness about wearing masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Speaking on the occasion, all the stars appealed the people to wear masks to ensure that they do not spread or contract the virus. They also requested the people to stop spitting in public places.
They participated in a 1 km rally with Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, other state ministers and several other eminent personalities outside the Vidhan Soudha to emphasise how important it is to wear a mask to prevent the novel coronavirus from spreading.
‘Mask up Humanity’, ‘Be kind, mask and bind’ and ‘Hero + mask superhero’, ‘Hero – (minus) mask zero’ were some of the messages on the placards carried by the rally participants. Placards were both in English and Kannada.
CM BSY, speaking on the occasion, expressed confidence that Karnataka will win the war against COVID-19.
“The role of masks is crucial in preventing the spread of Covid infection. Let’s protect from corona by wearing a mask,” said Yediyurappa.
At the event, Yediyurappa distributed face covers to senior officials.
Commemorating the mask day, the police department deputed its band to play music and also some more to march for the event.
Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwathnarayan, Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar, Tourism Minister C.T. Ravi, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Suresh Kumar, Bengaluru South Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya, Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao, Civic body Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar and others were present.
Wearing a mask is mandatory in Karnataka. The government is also penalizing violators.
