Bengaluru: Sandalwood’s leading stars Puneeth Rajkumar and Yash have been roped in by the state government to promote “less traffic day” from next month.

State government, with an aim to reduce traffic congestion and reduce environmental pollution in the capital, has marked second Sunday of every month as “less traffic day.” Government wants people to utilise public transport on that day and hopes it would ultimately lead to reduction in the number of vehicles on city roads in the long run.

The government through Puneeth and Yash, hopes to drive the point home among vehicle users to prevent a “capital Delhi like situation” in Bengaluru. Leading film director Yograj Bhat has assured of composing a song to promote less traffic day initiative.

The Minister of state for Transport held a meeting with Karnataka State Pollution Control board (KSPCB) and Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials to fix a date for the launch of the new initiative.

Social service organisations based in city’s residential localities and employees of IT-BT companies have already extended their support for the government move. More than 75 Volvo buses have already been kept aside to ensure campaign’s success once it is launched.
