Punjab Agricultural University Partners with Bengaluru Firm for Chilli Hybrid
Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Ashoka Farm Aids, a Bengaluru-based company, to promote the commercial production of Chilli Hybrid CH-27 seeds. The partnership aims to accelerate the hybrid’s availability to farmers across India. PAU’s Director of Research, Ajmer Singh Dhatt, praised Salesh Jindal, Senior Vegetable Breeder at the Department of Vegetable Science, for his efforts in successfully bringing this hybrid to market.
Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director of Technology Marketing and IPR Cell at PAU, highlighted that the CH-27 hybrid is becoming increasingly popular among farmers due to its adaptability in various climates across India. It is proving to be a preferred choice for cultivation.
The hybrid chilli variety, according to Jindal, offers high yields and is resistant to common agricultural issues such as leaf curl virus, fruit rot, and root-knot nematodes. Its long fruit-bearing structure and light green, medium-pungency fruits make it particularly suitable for powder production and food processing.
With a focus on expanding the commercialization of vegetable hybrids, PAU continues to make strides in advancing agriculture, ensuring farmers have access to high-quality and resilient seed varieties.
