Bengaluru: It has come to light that the Rapido bike taxis have been running their services illegally in the city. The bike taxi company is running its service through its app without a legal permission. Reportedly, the Deputy Transport Commissioner from Bangalore Central Regional Transport Office (RTO) has filed a complaint against the taxi service over its illegal operation. However, the police are yet to file an FIR.

According to sources, around 170 Rapido bike taxis have been seized so far and immediate action would be taken against the company.

The Economic Times has quoted Additional Commissioner of Transport Narendra Holkar as saying, “We had issued notices to Rapido directing the company to immediately suspend the bike taxi services. The department is not satisfied with their response and would be taking legal steps to ensure they stop the operations.”

Officials had recently cracked down on the Ola-run bike taxis which were being operated illegally. Over 250 vehicles which belonged to Ola were seized and a fine of Rs 6,000 per vehicle slapped on the cab aggregator, the total amount being Rs 15 Lakh. It is expected that Rapido will be penalised similarly.
