Bengaluru: The murder of three rationalists – Govinda Pansare, Dr Narendra Dabholkar and M M Kalburgi has turned out be a plot of classic film ‘Rashomon’ as the investigation has bottlenecked at just one point- the existence of two weapons and confusions shrouding the same.

With mystery refusing to be solved, it said that investigating agency – the CBI is likely to take third opinion from none other than the Scotland Yard police, London.

It may be recalled that a person named Dr Virendra Tawde was arrested by the CBI in connection with the murder of Dr Narendra Dabholkar. It was the first arrest after three years of the murder and with this, the agency has been getting fresh leads.

The agency now suspects that Dr Tawde may have played a role in the Govind Pansare and Kalburgi murder cases as well.

However, with sharp difference in the two forensic reports pertaining to weapons used for these three cases, it is now said that an opinion from Scotland Yard police would be imperative.

Two weapon mystery

As per investigators, two weapons were used for murdering Pansare and the same weapons were used to kill both Kalburgi and Dabholkar. The forensic sciences laboratory at Bengaluru had said that one weapon was used in the murder of Kalburgi while the other in the murder of Dabholkar.

But, when a second opinion was sought from a forensic lab in Mumbai, it made no mention of the second weapon at all. The report from Mumbai lab concluded that it was just one weapon which was used for all the three murders.

The CBI was left with no other option but to go for a third opinion and agency wanted to settle with the best. The third opinion is crucial and will help the CBI crack the case.

The CBI is sure that the same gang carried out all the three murders, yet a third opinion will make this certain. It is said that a team from Karnataka too is likely to question Tawde.

It may be recalled that Dr Narendra Dabholkar was killed in 2013 while Govind Pansare and Kalburgi were killed in 2015, reportedly due to their rationalist inclination.
