Bengaluru: Commenting on the impromptu demolition of shanties in Bellandur, DCM C N Ashwath Narayan said that razing them down just because the inhabitants are suspected to be immigrant minorities from Bangladesh is wrong.
It can be recalled that BBMP authorities had recently razed down over 200 makeshift residential huts, in the Kariyammana Agrahara, Devarabeesanahalli and Kundalahalli pockets with police protection.
“Action against illegal immigrants is a must. This issue has been discussed many times. However, before such action is taken, a proper inquiry must be conducted,” he said.
“Without knowing the background of the residents staying in these makeshift huts, it is wrong to raze them down,” he added.
It can be recalled that, soon after news broke that the shanties were demolished without prior notice to the inhabitants, outrage sparked and various political leaders spoke against the action.
Outgoing Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao, visited the area and spoke to the now homeless people. On his Twitter account, he spoke about his visit and what he discovered.
He said that most of the people who were living in the shanties were from various parts of Karnataka like Raichur, Koppal and Kalaburagi, which some others were from Assam and Tripura.
