Devi, an only child and a passionate supporter of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), tragically lost her life during the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Her story now stands as a haunting reminder of a celebration turned catastrophe.
Originally from Tamil Nadu, Devi had made Bengaluru her home after completing her studies, working at a local tech firm. A devoted follower of RCB and an ardent admirer of Virat Kohli, she had never missed a single match since relocating to the city. Her loyalty went beyond fandom—it was part of her identity.
On the day of the victory parade, Devi was eager to witness RCB’s historic celebration in person. After persistently seeking time off, she finally got permission from her manager around 2:30 PM. “She was thrilled,” her friend shared. “Her laptop and bag are still at her desk… but she’s gone.”
Despite missing out on the online ticket distribution, Devi was undeterred. Hoping for a chance to be part of the moment, she took the metro to the stadium, her last message reading: “I’m taking the metro!”
That was the final communication before the tragic events unfolded.
Devi’s loss has shattered her friends and family—and added a deeply personal layer to a public tragedy. A city she loved, and a team she cheered for with all her heart, became the setting for her untimely farewell.
