Bengaluru: The Rashtriya Swayamsevaka Sangha (RSS) Kshetriya Sanghachalak of Dakshina-Madhya Kshethra V.Nagaraj made it clear that the RSS will maintain neutral policy regarding giving separate religious status to the Lingayat community.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, he said that the RSS will completely agree with the decision taken by the seers of various mutts and social leaders pertaining to the matter and not hold a separate stand.
“It doesn’t matter whether Veerashaivas and Lingayats are together or separate. That will not make any difference. They are following Hindu lifestyle. Those who are obedient to the nation, respect the practices are called as Hindus. It is not important which God they worship. There are people in Sangh who don’t believe in God,” he said.
“We didn’t consider the Ram Mandir issue as a religious matter. Ram, Buddha, Basavanna, Mahaveer, they are all part of glorious Indian culture. The RSS doesnot want anybody to disrespect these great men. We will take further step based on the judgement of the Supreme Court,” he added.
Regarding the role of the RSS in politics, V.Nagaraj said that the RSS does have the need to work for elections. “As a republic country, for us elections are important, not the BJP,” he said.
