BENGALURU: A simple ribbon tied to a brand-new car became the key evidence that helped police track down a hit-and-run suspect accused of attempting to murder two constables. The accused, 34-year-old scrap dealer M Mahadevaswamy, alias Ramachari, was arrested and sent to Bengaluru Central Prison. His Tata Altroz was also seized.

The incident occurred between March 3 and 4, when Magadi Road police were conducting routine checks on West of Chord Road in Rajajinagar VI Block. Around 12:20 am, officers signaled Mahadevaswamy to stop, but he allegedly ignored their orders and sped away. In the process, he reportedly rammed into Head Constable Dhareppa Tonni, causing a fracture in his right leg, and also injured Constable Kartik.

During the investigation, CCTV footage revealed a distinct ribbon tied to the suspect’s new car. This small detail led officers to Mahadevaswamy, resulting in his arrest. He has been charged with attempted murder, and legal proceedings are underway.
