Bengaluru: Did you ever think that a robot would perform knee replacement surgery in a government hospital? Turns out that government-run Sanjay Gandhi Institute Of Trauma & Orthopaedics Centre will soon introduce robo surgeries.
According to hospital director H S Chandrasekar, due to the high patient pressure, the hospital is not able to perform the key surgeries like hip replacement etc. on time and patients are asked to wait. To ensure that the demand is met and more surgeries are performed, the hospital has decided to introduce robotic surgery.
“We are sending our experts to Cochin for training. After that, robotic surgery will be introduced in the hospital,” he said.
According to Chandrasekar, every year, over 6,000 hip replacement surgeries are performed at the hospital.
“We will be the first in the state to introduce robotic surgeries. So, our surgeons have been sent to Cochin for training,” he said.
