Bengaluru: A 42-year-old rowdy-sheeter has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a milk parlour owner, his wife, and their young son following a dispute over vehicle parking near Hebbagodi in Electronics City. The accused, identified as Tarun Choudary, was arrested after CCTV footage of the incident surfaced, confirming the assault.
Clash over parking leads to assault
The incident occurred on the night of October 9 at Ananthnagar, when Choudary, who was driving home, objected to a milk van parked in front of the parlour. The vehicle, according to the complainant, was not blocking the way. However, an irate Choudary allegedly barged into the shop and began abusing and assaulting the owner, Gopal HV (42).
“He scolded me for parking the milk van, but it was not blocking his way. He abused me filthily and punched me on my head, ear, and face, causing injuries,” Gopal stated in his complaint to the police. The entire episode was captured on a CCTV camera installed outside the parlour.
Family caught in the scuffle
When Gopal’s wife Anupa RN (38) intervened to stop the attack, Choudary, originally from Bihar, allegedly turned on her. He is accused of using obscene language, manhandling her by grabbing her clothes, and assaulting their four-year-old son when the child cried.
The complainant also alleged that Choudary threatened to kill the couple by running his SUV over them if they continued to park the milk van near the shop. Gopal further claimed that the accused pointed a pistol at him and threatened to open fire.
Police action and investigation
Police officials said that Choudary’s licensed pistol had been deposited at the Hebbagodi police station three years ago when a rowdy-sheet was opened against him. However, since the complainant mentioned that the accused brandished a firearm, officers conducted searches at Choudary’s residence and those of his bodyguards. No weapon was found during the search.
Deputy commissioner of police (Electronics City) M Narayana confirmed the arrest and said that Choudary has been remanded in judicial custody. “A case has been registered and the investigation is under way,” he said.
Previous criminal record
According to the police, Choudary has a history of violent behaviour and is involved in at least three previous cases of assault. One case was registered at Ashok Nagar police station four years ago after a brawl in a pub, while two other cases were filed in Hebbagodi for similar offences.
The present case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 115 – Voluntarily causing hurt
- Section 126 – Wrongful restraint
- Section 133 – Assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour a person
- Section 351 – Criminal intimidation
- Section 352 – Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace
- Section 74 – Assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty
Officials said Choudary also assaulted his bodyguards when they tried to restrain him during the altercation.
Efforts to curb habitual offenders
Police sources said that maintaining surveillance over habitual offenders like Choudary remains a priority in the Electronics City division, where cases of road rage and physical assaults are reported frequently. The authorities are reviewing his rowdy-sheet status and plan to recommend stricter monitoring under local preventive laws.
The case highlights growing concerns over road rage and aggressive behaviour in Bengaluru’s rapidly developing suburbs. Police have urged the public to report such incidents immediately and avoid engaging with aggressive motorists.
